Peace - Ahimsa Silk
Peace - Ahimsa Silk
Peace silk is less lustrous than typical silk but is incredibly soft and has a rich, slubbed texture and a fluid drape. These handwoven wraps are naturally dyed using vegetable & mineral dyes and at first glance may not look that special. However, you will find that the natural colours will blend easily into your wardrobe and mix with almost anything. As they retain warmth in Winter and breathe in the heat in Summer, are comfortable to wear year-round and will take you seamlessly from shopping trips to holidays and weddings.
Ahimsa Silk, also known as peace silk, cruelty-free silk and non-violent silk, refers to any type of silk that is produced without harming or killing the silkworms. It is made on a very small scale as a cottage industry in India, and its production supports a wide community of rural silk farmers (usually women), spinners (women) and weavers (women & men).
Any variations or irregularities are part of the design and inherent to the production process and as naturally dyed, the colour may change slightly over time.
Please note: the red wrap is woven from Eri silk which is more readily available and so less expensive than the mulberry ahimsa. The feel is smoother but still much thicker than ‘normal’ silk.
