In simple terms, Fair Trade is when producers in developing countries are paid a fair price for their work by those in developed countries. It is exactly as it says, trading practices are fair and not one sided.
The wage should be more than just enough for the producers day-to-day needs.
It’s when the price we pay gives those producers the chance to lead more dignified lives giving them more control over their lives and future.
Food, education and healthcare become more accessible.
Working conditions should be safe, non-discriminatory and children below the age of 15 are not to be employed.
Producers and workers have a voice.
Payment is often paid in advance to ensure the producer can fulfil their orders.
