Bandhani is a hugely time consuming tie-dye technique dating back to the 6th century and all done by hand by craftswomen in Gujurat. They take the minutest pinch of fabric between two fingers and tightly wrap thread around the pinched cloth. The laborious process is carried acrossthe surface of the fabric which is then dyed. Upon unwrapping, the areas under the thread have resisted the dye and the more skilled the craftswoman the smaller the bandhani.
